2008 John Monash Scholar, Brigadier Roger Noble, presented the Lowy Lecture on November 9 on "The Future of Special Forces". The Lowy Institute for International Policy is an independent think tank based in Sydney. Its objective is to generate new ideas and dialogue on international developments and Australia’s role in the world.
In his lecture, Brigadier Noble outlined long-term factors which should guide the way the ADF structures Special Operations Command. Brigadier Noble is the author of The Future Special Operations Concept 2030 which argues that Australia's Special Forces need to be prepared for a future in which there is no peace or war, just constant competition.
